Anna has found her life mate. I know this because she has told me so. He meets all the major requirements: he’s a boy, about her age, likes to ride bikes… and most importantly he lives on her street.
Yesterday we were taking our walk/bike ride, now that it’s getting warmer outside I’ve trying to get the girls outside a bit more… there was this little boy out riding his bike too… Anna naturally started to follow him around (she is a bit of a follower) and “race” him… he was obviously a more experienced bike rider, but she did do a good job of sorta keeping up with him. She was having a really good time… and I’m really glad she found someone her own age to ride around with… it’s always more fun to ride bikes with someone your own age.
I let her do her thing… making sure she moved over when a car came… give her a boost up the hill if she stopped… my jobs. I give myself an alloted time so Emma isn’t out to long, and I let Anna know that she had one more trip down and back and we where going in… now… they might have exchanged maybe 20 words this whole time… when they were coming back I hear her telling him… that they were going to get married and have honeys (Anna talk for babies)… and she was going to stay home and watch them… and this and that…
I cut her short and told her to tell him goodbye… and as we returned home she was telling me that they were going to get married… and how much she liked him… and that they were best friends… so I asked her what his name was… “I don’t know”… how old is he? “I don’t know”… don’t you think this might be important information… maybe?
I tried to explain that the next time we see him… ask his name first thing… second… don’t talk all about marriage and liking him… that she might scare the boy away… have fun, become his friend… and when you get to be 18… or 30 you can marry him if you want to.
So… after school today, if the boy is out there… I will be able to witness young budding love… and I’ll be there for her if by chance he breaks her heart… because he wants to play boy stuff with boys… and not girl stuff… like talking about marriage.
