Jenn and I went to Put-In-Bay, Ohio this past weekend to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary… and I haven’t seen so many mid to late middle aged drunk people in one place in my life. It’s nice to know that there is a place you can go when you become an empty nester to make an complete ass out of yourself and act like you’re in college again… and ladies, you know who I’m talking about, not everyone is built to wear a bikini…

It was a big step in my world since Emma was born… Jenn had already experienced a couple of over nighters away from Emma… being a stay at home dad from day one, I haven’t been separated from her for longer then a few hours at a time. We were gone for 2 nights, and it was so nice for Jenn and I to enjoy each other’s company, even though our conversation would revolve around Emma and our family… it was still a very enjoyable trip.

We arrived on Thursday and returned on Saturday, which was nice because we arrived and left before the large weekend crowd really arrived. We stayed at Ashley’s Island House bed and breakfast, which became a nice quiet retreat when the sun became to much… we stayed in the “Rose” room, and the only complaint per say was that there were 2 rooms across the hall that used a shared bathroom (our room had a bathroom), and both nights the drunk inhabitants of these rooms used the bathroom every 20 to 30 minutes… door open… door close… beyond that it was very pleasant.

We took in all the sites, toured Perry’s Cave and saw the Crystal Cave… took the tour of the winery and sampled some wine… went to the top of Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial… but what truly captivated me, and made me fall in love with the area, was the history… how the Native Americans used the islands… how the area was the location of one of the most important victories during the War of 1812… to how the popularity of the area grew during the steamboat era…

There is something to say about the “No Worries” island mentality that is very prevalent at Put-In-Bay. Once you pass the congestion of downtown and head to the outskirts of the island you can really start to feel it… I would have to say, I’ve become a fan… now if there weren’t so many damn tourist…
